On Saturday 6 September the Student Assembly Against Austerity is hosting a national meeting to bring together students from across the country to launch the STUDENT MANIFESTO 2015 – with the goal of uniting the student movement behind a progressive set of demands in the run up to the General Election.
Tuition fees, the scrapping of EMA, soaring rents and living costs and cuts to education: austerity and privatisation is failing students and harming our living standards. The Student Assembly’s STUDENT MANIFESTO 2015 will put forward a radical alternative – starting from the principle that higher and further education should be universal, free and publicly funded.
As well as deciding what demands should be in the STUDENT MANIFESTO 2015, the national meeting will also be a crucial opportunity to discuss, plan and organise national actions the Student Assembly should lead throughout the autumn term.
A key focus will be on building the student bloc for the TUC national demo in October and on organising the national student demo for free education which the Student Assembly is organising alongside a coalition of groups on Wednesday 19 November.
