As part of these actions The Student Assembly Against Austerity have been successful in getting an Early Day Motion (EDM) in parliament opposing the proposed sale.
As the motion (EDM 542 - stop the sale of student loans) points out "in order to make the student loan book profitable for private companies it would need to be accompanied by either subsidies from the taxpayer or an increase in the financial burden placed on graduates."
We will not stand for this. The Student Assembly Against Austerity are proud to have created a lobbying tool on our website so you can lobby your MP with ease in less than a minute. Simply visit the 'lobbying tool' page on our website
We are delighted to be joining the London Young Greens, Student Broad Left, the NUS Black Students’ Campaign and the National Campaign Against Fees and Cuts to co-host a protest outside the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills on Friday 18th October from 1pm. This fun and lively protest will remind the government that education is a right, not a means for funnelling more profit to shareholders of corporations. Join the facebook event here.
We are also mobilising for STUDENTS VS AUSTERITY: National Day of Action – Tues 5 November to send a clear message to the government: stop attacking students! You can join the facebook event here.
Don't forget to take a minute to use the lobbying tool to contact your MP about the EDM and let everyone know about this simple action they can take.
