Oxford Brookes Student assembly Against Austerity
I first became politically active at school, quickly becoming concerned with the levels of inequality present in Britain and the world. The older I've got, the more this concern has developed, fuelling my desire to work with like-minded people up and down the country to fight against oppressive government led austerity. The re-election of this cruel Conservative regime is something that has ignited me further to stand up for those strangled by such draconian cuts.
Oxford Brookes does not have a strong political tradition, but this movement is focussed on the future not tradition. Austerity is something we all feel the effects of, no matter wealth, status or background. The fight against austerity is a broad one, bringing together people of all beliefs and creeds, all united by their burning desire for a different Britain. Oxford Brookes can make a difference. We can all make a difference.
Attending the 'End Austerity Now' demonstration in June 2015 made me realise that we do not have to be a minority, nor a silent majority. Instead, standing together, united in common cause, we can be a deafening beacon in the fight against austerity.
